Physical Education

“Being active for at least 60 minutes a day is linked to better general health, stronger bones and muscles, and higher levels of self-esteem.” NHS England.

At LJS, we believe that PE lays the foundations for a child’s long-term wellbeing and contributes to their mental, social, emotional, and physical development. Our PE curriculum is both challenging and fun; it helps build pupil confidence and self-esteem as well as resilience and determination. We want all our pupils to benefit from the many rewards that being active brings and to recognise the impact that exercise can have on their physical and mental well-being.

We are proud to offer our pupils’ a wide range of physical activities; from traditional sports such as football, netball and gymnastics, to more specialised activities, like karate, climbing and dance. There are many opportunities to participate in competitive sports, both in and out of school and our pupils take great pride in representing LJS and achieving success. Swimming lessons take place in Year 3 and during both Y4 and Y6, pupils can experience outdoor adventure activities on residential settings.

We are very lucky to have an all-weather running track on our school field which, as well as general running and walking, is used for the Daily Mile, cross-country practice and running club.
