At LJS we are lucky enough to have our Music lessons taught by our specialist teacher, Miss Harding. Based on the Charanga School music scheme, children learn about a variety of musical styles and genre, ranging from classical music and jazz to modern and world music.
All children have the opportunity to sing and learn an instrument. We currently offer instrumental lessons with peripatetic teachers on: drums, piano, guitar, violin and woodwind. In addition to this, the recorder and glockenspiel are taught to all pupils and children participate in weekly singing assemblies.
There are also opportunities to take part in various musical events throughout the school year, such as the ever popular ‘Young Voices’ concert at the Genting Arena in Birmingham and carol singing for our elderly community; we also hold an annual house music competition, where musical talent can be showcased to the whole school.
What have we been up to in Music lessons?
Year 4 have been back to the 1970’s learning the song ‘Mamma Mia’, by Abba. They have learnt the melody, lyrics and added instrumental parts using glockenspiels and recorders. Enjoy the videos below showing a performance by 4B!
Ukulele Group Visit
We were very fortunate to have a visit from Age UK's ukulele group, who brought along their instruments to play for us in assembly. As a whole school we joined the group in singing ‘How much is that Doggy in the Window?’ and ‘Skip to my Lou’. Some lucky children were also picked to play a ukulele alongside the group. It was a wonderful way to share music across the generations!
